Public Utility Information

City of Tangent Sewer Utility

The City of Tangent owns and operates a Septic Tank Effluent Pumping (STEP) Wastewater System. The STEP System includes a septic tank and a pump. Sewage is conveyed by gravity to the tank through your building plumbing line.

Liquid waste is pumped under pressure to the public sewer system and wastewater treatment facility. Solid waste will remain in the STEP tank, where it naturally degrades and is eventually pumped out.

Every shower, bathroom visit, laundry/dishwasher load conducted within your household inevitably winds up in your septic tank and the City’s wastewater treatment system.

There are many harmful substances and items that are detrimental to septic tanks and wastewater treatment systems.

It is crucial for you to become familiar with the simple steps you can take to prolong the life and efficiency of your system, reduce maintenance expenses, and help prevent overflows that could impact ground and surface water.
